Osun Amotekun arrests ex-convict for stealing mosque’s amplifier 

An ex-convict, Tajudeen Ridwan, has been arrested by the operatives of Osun Amotekun Corps in Isale Osun Area of Osogbo, Osun State capital, for stealing electronic appliances in a mosque.

Ridwan, 30, a statement by Idowu Yusuf, the spokesperson for Amotekun Corps in Osun obtained in Osogbo on Friday, said was released from a custodial centre in March after serving a four-year jail term following his conviction for offences bordering on stealing.

The suspect was reportedly caught in the act by some worshippers before Amotekun operatives were contacted.

Commenting on the arrest, the Commander of Osun Amotekun, Corps, Brig. Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi (retd.), said that the suspect disguised as a worshipper and used the opportunity to steal an amplifier being used to call worshippers to prayers.

He further said, “He was caught after morning prayer thinking that all the worshippers had left the mosque, but luck ran against him when some worshippers saw him packing the electronic musical amplifier inside a bag.

“The attention of Amotekun Osogbo Command was called to the act and the operatives swung into action immediately and apprehended the felon on the spot.

“Upon preliminary investigation, he confessed to being an ex-convict who just completed his four-year jail term for the same act in March this year.”

Adewinbi said the suspect has been handed over to the police for further interrogation and prosecution.
