Police arrest man in viral video threatening Adamawa residents with AK-47

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man, Anas Dauda, a resident of Jalingo B area, Lamorde Ward, in Mubi South Local Government Area, for unlawful possession of a firearm.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Yola.

Nguroje said the arrest followed the circulation of a viral video on social media showing the suspect displaying an AK-47 rifle loaded with three magazines while making threatening comments and boasting that he could sell or lease the weapon for a certain amount of money.

“The video, which caused panic and fear among residents, was promptly brought to the attention of the Command,” the statement read.

Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, immediately ordered the deployment of operatives from the Mubi South Divisional Police Headquarters, led by the Divisional Police Officer to trace and apprehend the suspect.

The police operatives, according to the statement, successfully tracked and arrested Dauda at a remote location in Mubi town.

“While investigation is ongoing, efforts are being intensified to recover the prohibited firearm seen in the video and to identify its source,” Nguroje added.

The state police commissioner has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case for discreet investigation and diligent prosecution.

Morris also assured members of the public of the command’s continued commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property across Adamawa State.

He further warned individuals and groups against engaging in acts capable of disturbing public peace or violating the laws of the land.
