Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire: A woman of many first

Princess (Dr.) Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, the Senior Special Assistant to President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), is a trailblazer in the political history of Lagos State.

Many did not know that her political trajectory started 30 years ago when she was elected into the 3rd Legislative Assembly of Lagos State House of Assembly in 1992 to represent Alimosho Constituency 1.

Thus, she and Late Hon. (Chief) Mrs. Bola Banjo, from Agege Constituency 2, were the first females to be elected into the hallowed chamber of Lagos State House of Assembly.

Of course, I was not yet a correspondent then in the Lagos State House of Assembly but I got it from the history of the House.

This thus explains why she featured prominently in the ‘Lagos House of Assembly In History’ section of my book, ‘Two Decades of Lagos House of Assembly: Face To Face With The Movers and Shakers.’

She also emerged as the first female member of the House of Assembly to be appointed a commissioner into the Lagos State Executive Council as well as the first member of the House of Assembly (whether male or female) to be elected deputy governor of Lagos State.

Today, she is the first female member of the House of Assembly too, to hold a Federal Government position as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), a position she has held since 2016.
